The Center of Disease Control and Prevention states that individuals with ASD might: 

  • Have difficulties relating or having an interest in others

  • Avoid eye contact

  • Prefer to be alone 

  • Prefer to not be touched or held

  • Not look at objects when others point to them

  • Repeat or echo words or phrases, sometimes in place of normal language

  • Have difficulties communicating their needs or emotions

  • Engage in repetitious actions

  • Have trouble when routines change

  • Display sensory sensitivities (unusual reactions to smells, tastes, textures, and sounds)

  • Appear unaware of people in their surroundings
